National Geospatial Data Repository and PPP Model Proposed by Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh
In the midst of transformative changes in India's geospatial policy framework, the Indian geospatial market stands on the brink of a significant evolution. Beyond 2021, it is projected to grow at a moderate rate of 13.39% CAGR, increasing from INR 14,050 crore in 2021 to INR 23,200 crore by 2025. Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh proposed the creation of a National Geospatial Data Repository and the adoption of a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model to drive innovation and product development, particularly benefiting farmers and rural artisans. He directed the Department of Space, Department of Science and Technology, and Ministry of Earth Sciences to develop a unified geospatial interface to engage the industry and startup ecosystem. It is imperative for the sector to have seamless Geo-ICT infrastructure which requires a sustainable ecosystem through the pooling of knowledge and resources in collaboration with non-governmental sectors. Olympic Swimsuits meet Space Tech for a Competitive Edge
Swimsuits worn by athletes at the 2024 Summer Olympics use cutting-edge technology originally designed to protect satellites in space. Developed by Lamoral in collaboration with Speedo, the Fastskin LZR swimsuits feature a durable water-repellent coating also used to shield satellites from cosmic radiation. This innovative coating, integral to Speedo's Fastskin LZR Intent 2.0 and LZR Valor 2.0 suits, drastically reduces drag, allowing swimmers to glide effortlessly through the water. According to Olympian Ryan Murphy, this advantage could shave up to a second off a swimmer's time per 50 meters—enough to secure a gold medal. Speedo's head of innovation, Coora Lavezzo, highlights the water-repellent properties, which make swimmers appear as though water droplets are sliding off them.
