SIA-India Leads the Charge: Proposes strategic recommendations following Indo-Pacific Economic Framework Consultation with Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
Last month, Mr Anil Prakash, Director General, and Ms Sudipta Behera, Director Communications, SIA-India, participated in the IPEF Stakeholders Consultation. SIA-India taking Suo-moto cognizance has proposed certain recommendations to the ministry. The Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF), launched in May 2022, is a key initiative involving 14 countries, including India, aimed at fostering fair trade, resilient economies, and inclusive growth. India's active role, especially in the Supply Chain Resilience Agreement, underscores its commitment to regional economic stability. The IPEF's emphasis on resilient and secure supply chains is particularly relevant to India's space sector, which relies heavily on imports for critical components. Recognizing the sector's vulnerabilities, SIA-India is collaborating with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to strengthen India’s space supply chain, reduce import dependency, and enhance global competitiveness. SIA-India’s submission includes a list of critical components with high import dependency and policy recommendations to bolster supply chain resilience, reduce import dependency, boost indegenous manufacturing and support the sector’s growth.
SIA-India Comments to TRAI Consultation Paper No. 7/2024 on the Framework for Service Authorisations to be Granted Under the Telecommunications Act, 2023
In a recent submission to TRAI, SIA-India proposed views for a series of questions placed by TRAI. The submissions focused on key issues of Service Authorisations. SIA India further advocated for maintaining distinct roles of GMPCS and VSAT. GMPCS should continue to provide mobile satellite services, while VSAT CUG should focus on data connectivity within closed groups. While merging these authorizations could lead to operational and regulatory complexities, blurring the distinct functions of each service. There is also a need for refining and aligning the scopes—linking GMPCS with MSS and VSAT with FSS—to ensure clarity, operational efficiency, and regulatory simplicity.

Quantum data beamed alongside 'classical data' in the same fiber-optic connection for the 1st time
Scientists have achieved a groundbreaking milestone by successfully transmitting quantum data and conventional data simultaneously through a single optical fiber. This research demonstrates that entangled photons (quantum data) and laser pulses (conventional internet data) can coexist within the same fiber-optic cable. Previously, the focus was on developing separate infrastructures for quantum and classical data to prevent interference. However, this new "hybrid" network approach could revolutionize quantum communications by allowing both types of data to share the same infrastructure, potentially leading to more efficient quantum internet implementation.

Collaboration in Earth Observation Industry: A key to drive India’s growth to $44 billion Space Economy- KaleidEO
In a recent publication by KaleidEO some key points were highlighted in lengths. India's Earth Observation (EO) sector faces significant challenges that need to be addressed to unlock its full potential. Despite having 51 operational satellites in LEO and GEO, India's satellite assets are far fewer than those of other space-capable nations like the USA and China. The EO industry has traditionally operated on a 'Supply First' model, leading to a mismatch between data availability and application needs. Moreover, most satellite data is consumed by government and strategic applications, limiting its availability for commercial use. Another challenge is the lack of integrated data infrastructure, hindering data discovery, interoperability, and application optimization. Addressing these issues is crucial for advancing India's EO capabilities and supporting its growth towards a $44 billion space economy.
