 India Pavilion Shines Bright at IPSEC 2024 on Australian Soil 

 Culmination of IPSEC 2024

 

As part of the LEAP initiative, SIA-India proudly inaugurated the "India Pavilion" at the Indo-Pacific Space and Earth Conference and Exhibition (IPSEC) 2024, held at Crown Perth. The pavilion was officially inaugurated by Mr. Amarjeet Singh Takhi, Consul General of India in Western Australia, along with Dr. Subba Rao Pavuluri, President of SIA-India and CMD of Ananth Technologies, and Mr. Anil Prakash, Director General of SIA-India. The event was attended by a distinguished group of dignitaries, industry leaders, and space professionals. The India Pavilion showcases the diverse capabilities of the Indian space industry and aims to strengthen collaborations, drive innovation, and achieve shared success in the global space economy.

 

Protoplanet and SIA India enters an MoU
SIA-India and Protoplanet have entered a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to advance space research and capacity building in India. The collaboration, announced at the Indo-Pacific Space and Earth Conference (IPSEC) 2024, aimed at advancing innovative research and capacity building in India’s space sector. This collaboration will focus on critical areas such as astrobiology, planetary sciences, microgravity, and climate studies, with a particular emphasis on strengthening research, knowledge exchange, technology development, and policy advocacy at universities and institutes across the country. The partnership will remain in effect till the culmination of International Astronautical Congress (IAC) 2028. Representing the Indian Space Industry, our leadership of SIA-India met Honorable Stephen Dawson, MLC, Minister for Innovation and the Digital Economy and Science.

SIA-India and Ms. Linda Dawson, Deputy Director General of Invest and Trade Western Australia, led a discussion on cementing and fostering collaboration between the Indian Space Industry and Western Australia. The session took place at the "India Pavilion", it was also marked by the presence of Mr. James Yuen, Executive Director (Innovation and Emerging Technologies) from Invest and Trade Western Australia along with other industry delegation.

The IPSEC concluded with Dr. Subba Rao Pavuluri, President of SIA-India and CMD of Ananth Technologies, delivered the keynote address, offering valuable insights to global space leaders and experts. He was joined by Mr. Anil Prakash, DG of SIA-India, Mr. Govindarajan D S, Board Member, and Mr. Rajeev Gambhir, Dy. DG of SIA-India, contributing to impactful discussions at the event. SIA-India had the opportunity of showcasing the capabilities of the Indian space industry at the Indo-Pacific Space and Earth Conference and Exhibition 2024

 India Prepares Draft for First Space Law to Boost Investment and Growth

A fresh draft of India’s first dedicated space law is ready, marking a significant step to attract foreign investment in the $9 billion space sector. According to Pawan Goenka, Chairman of IN-SPACe, the draft aims to streamline processes and resolve regulatory bottlenecks, currently hindering growth.

The comprehensive law, prepared by the Department of Space, will be open for industry consultations by early 2025. It will define roles for ISRO and the Department of Space, provide legal authority to IN-SPACe, and address foreign investment handling. The move aligns with India’s target of a $44 billion space economy by 2033, alongside plans for a ₹1,000 crore VC fund for startups and increasing domestic rocket launches

 IIFCL Seeks Infrastructure Tag for Space Sector, Eyes Satellite Vehicle Manufacturing Finance

IIFCL (India Infrastructure Finance Company Limited) has requested the Indian government to include the space sector in the harmonized list of infrastructure. This move aims to enable easier financing for satellite vehicle manufacturing and related areas. The recognition would allow IIFCL to provide funding for high-tech space projects, which are currently outside the scope of its financing.

IIFCL’s subsidiary, IPL, has previously supported ISRO in satellite transfers and business planning. This initiative aligns with the government's push to boost private sector participation and innovation in India’s space sector, especially following recent FDI policy liberalizations.

 BSNL and Viasat bring Direct-to-Device Satellite Connectivity Services in India : A Landmark Advancement in 

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has partnered with SIA-India member Viasat to launch direct-to-device satellite connectivity services in the country. This collaboration marks a significant step forward in bridging the digital divide and expanding connectivity to remote and underserved areas. Satellite communication (SatCom) has long been celebrated for its transformative potential, particularly in regions where traditional cellular infrastructure is neither feasible nor cost-effective. By leveraging satellite technology, BSNL and Viasat aim to extend reliable cellular reception to the farthest corners of India, ensuring that no region is left disconnected.

 IN-SPACe to Develop Training Programmes for Space Sector Skills

India’s space regulator, IN-SPACe, has achieved a significant milestone by being recognized as an awarding and assessing body by the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET). This recognition enables IN-SPACe to develop and deliver specialized training programs in key areas of space technology, including satellite manufacturing, space technology applications in agriculture, mission design, avionics for launch vehicles, and space data products and services.

The initiative will help build a skilled workforce for India's rapidly expanding space sector. IN-SPACe's training programs will focus on advanced propulsion systems and other critical aspects, equipping learners with the expertise needed to contribute to India's space ambitions in the global arena.

 Ananth Technologies to be the first private Indian satellite operator to provide GSO communication satellite

Ananth Technologies Ltd (ATL) is set to make history as the first private Indian operator to provide geostationary (GSO) communication satellites. Authorized under the Indian Space Policy 2023 by IN-SPACe, ATL will develop and operate a Ka-band high-throughput satellite (HTS) aimed at advancing India’s digital infrastructure.

The satellite will cater to critical sectors like education and healthcare, leveraging multi-beam technology to enhance connectivity across the country. ATL will oversee the entire process, including satellite design, launch, operations, and ITU compliance, while drawing on ISRO’s technical expertise.  Vishal Mathur consultants LLP secures IN-SPACe Authorization 

Our latest Nova member, Vishal Mathur Consultants LLP (VMLLC) has achieved a significant milestone by securing authorization from the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Center (IN-SPACe) to market, promote, and lease PT Telkomsat's C-band satellite capacity in India.

VMLLC, founded by industry veteran Vishal Mathur, entered the Indian satellite and media sector last year. With this new authorization, the company will facilitate the use of PT Telkomsat's satellite capacity for the HITS (Headend-in-the-Sky) platform and various broadcasters across India, expanding the reach and capabilities of satellite communication services in the region. This marks an important development in India’s growing satellite sector, reflecting increased opportunities for local companies in the space industry.
