OHD on Consultation Paper: Network Authorisations Under Telecommunications Act, 2023

A virtual Open House Discussion (OHD) on the Consultation Paper regarding the Terms and Conditions of Network Authorisations under the Telecommunications Act, 2023 will be held on 17th December 2024.On December 17, 2024, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) conducted an Open House Discussion (OHD) on the Terms and Conditions of Network Authorizations to be Granted under the Telecommunications Act, 2023. The event, held via video conferencing, witnessed active participation from industry leaders and stakeholders.   
SIA-India participated in the OHD, under the Leadership of Mr Anil Prakash, Director General of SIA India, during his intervention, he highlighted the ongoing proactive and structural reforms and measures unveiled by the Government with a view to boost and tap the potential of the Space sector. He exuded confidence that TRAI recommendations resulting out of this consultation will further accelerate the sector. 
Key points shared by Shri Anil Prakash:

  • Reiterated no need of separate Ground station as a service (GSaaS) authorization as IN-SPACe is already stated authorisation to the interested companies.
  • He further emphasized the need for TRAI revisiting its earlier recommendation and consider continuing with GMPCS and Commercial CUG VSAT authorization separately

ISRO Successfully Tests CE20 Cryogenic Engine: A Leap in Space Technology

ISRO has successfully tested the CE20 cryogenic engine, marking a significant breakthrough in propulsion technology, crucial for India’s Gaganyaan mission—the country’s first manned spaceflight. Conducted on November 29 at the ISRO Propulsion Complex in Mahendragiri, Tamil Nadu, the test showcased the engine’s restart capabilities, an essential step for future manned missions.

Developed indigenously by ISRO’s Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre, the CE20 engine operates at a thrust of 19 tonnes and has powered six LVM3 missions. Upgraded to 20 tonnes, it is capable of reaching 22 tonnes thrust for the C32 stage in future missions, further enhancing the payload capacity of the LVM3 launch vehicle. This test strengthens India's position in the global space arena and paves the way for advanced space explorations.

Manastu Space Technologies has delivered India’s first Green Propulsion System to DRDO, heralding a breakthrough in sustainable space exploration and defense innovation. The iBooster, a propulsion system tailored for 100–500 kg satellites, facilitates orbit raising, station-keeping, and deorbiting. Powered by proprietary hydrogen peroxide-based fuel, it prioritizes safety, efficiency, and environmental sustainability.

SIA-India and Protoplanet Sign MoU for Collaborative Research in Space Sciences

SIA-India and Protoplanet have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to advance innovative research and capacity building in astrobiology, planetary sciences, microgravity, and climate studies. The MoU was officially exchanged at the Indo-Pacific Space and Earth Conference and Exhibition (IPSEC) 2024, between Dr. Subba Rao Pavuluri, President of SIA-India, and Dr. Siddharth Pandey, Director of Protoplanet.

The ceremony was attended by Mr. Amarjeet Singh Takhi, Consul General of India in Western Australia, Mr. Anil Prakash, Director General of SIA-India, along with several dignitaries and industry leaders. The collaboration aims to enhance international cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region by focusing on key interdisciplinary areas like planetary sciences, space robotics, and terrestrial analogues.The partnership will also include joint workshops, specialized training sessions, and knowledge-sharing platforms to strengthen research and capacity-building initiatives.
